Longer holidays feature in future luxury travel trends

A move towards longer holidays rather than several smaller trips to minimise air travel has emerged among future travel trends.

The data as been revealed by sister luxury operators Abercrombie & Kent and Cox & Kings.

Anecdotal feedback from clients indicate that missed milestones in 2020 are encouraging them to travel in 2021 for a trip of a lifetime or with wider family.

This means villas are a popular choice as they can accommodate a large family gathering.

Cruising on smaller ships offered by the likes of Silversea and Sanctuary Retreats are attracting increased interest alongside luxury expedition sailings and river cruises in Asia.

A&K has introduced more private yacht options including super yacht Alexa J around the Greek islands for summer 2021.

Beach holidays have never been more popular post-lockdown as people look for a break.

“Despite high prices and minimum stay requirements over the Christmas and new year period, the best rooms in top Caribbean and Maldivian hotels are already being snapped up early,” the sister operators said.

Wildlife camps in Kenya and Tanzania are looking busy for July and August with many families postponing their 2020 trip to see the migration in 2021.

Luxury lodges are already reporting high occupancy rates, especially in Botswana where some camps are nearly full during peak season, according to the operators.

Managing director Kerry Golds said: “The rule book as we knew it is out of the window; it’s a new world for travel. So if you do want to see, do or go somewhere, we’d suggest booking sooner, rather than later to avoid disappointment.”
