Forbes Travel Guide announces over 400 new five-star awards

Forbes Travel Guide has assigned 445 five-star ratings to a collection of luxury hotels, restaurants and spas as part of its 2021 awards programme.

The independent global rating system, which started in 1958, surveyed over 1,800 properties, with undercover inspectors testing up to 900 objective standards.

Notable winners included Hotel Hassler Roma (pictured), located at the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome; Tschuggen Hotel Group’s all-suite property Carlton Hotel St. Moritz; and 21 out of 33 properties from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s portfolio. 

Eleven Mandarin Oriental spas also received the five-star status, including The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona and Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.

Tokyo emerged as the city with the highest number of new five-star hotels, thanks to 2021 newcomers The Capitol Hotel Tokyo; The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, a Luxury Collection Hotel; The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo and Takanawa Hanakohro.

Five North American cities also welcomed their first first-star hotels: Four Seasons Hotel Seattle; The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston; Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina’s Hilton Head; Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Centre and Four Seasons Hotel Montreal. 

Two new entries joined Bali’s five-star ranks, with the St. Regis Bali Resort and The Mulia – Nusa Dua, Bali both earning top points this year. 

Scotland also landed its first five-star hotel with The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel in Edinbugh.

Meanwhile, Los Cabos cemented its luxury status once again, adding Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection and Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection to its line-up of five-star hotels.
