Luxury experiential tour operator Pelorus has been certified as a B Corporation.
The company, which specialises in high-end, tailor-made holidays, received the certification following a rigorous review of its operations across five key areas: governance; workers; community; environment; and customers.
The company also had to provide evidence of responsible practices related to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency and legally embed its commitment to purpose and profit in its company articles.
The travel specialist has joined a growing number of tour operators which have become B Corps and are using business as a force for good, and more than 8,000 businesses globally from a range of different industries which now have the certification.
It comes less than a year after its partnership with sustainable aviation fuel producer Neste, supported by its launch of Pelorus Aviation, which allows clients to purchase sustainable aviation fuel.
Pelorus also contributes to the Pelorus Foundation Climate Investment Fund, a carbon capture credit portfolio that has supported projects such as agroforestry in Indonesia and mangrove restoration in Kenya.
Co-founder Geordie Mackay Lewis said: “We are extremely humbled to be a B Corp certified business, a huge milestone in our mission to create life-enriching experiences rooted in meaning and purpose.
"Our aim has always been to push boundaries within the world of travel, yachting and aviation; and, in collaboration with independently registered charity, Pelorus Foundation, leave a legacy of impact.”
B Lab UK executive director Chris Turner said: “We are pleased to have B Corps of all shapes and sizes as part of our community — from start-ups to multinationals and across many different industries. B Lab UK and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased that Pelorus is paving the way for a new way of doing things.”
