EasyJet expands services to Iceland

The budget carrier is to start serving Reykjavik from the two airports in March 2013.

Twice-weekly flights will leave Edinburgh and Manchester from March 14 and 21 respectively.

The flights will run from Edinburgh on Mondays and Thursdays and Manchester on Thursdays and Sundays. One-way fares start at £24.99.

The new routes will come a year after the airline starting flying to Iceland from Luton.

The Luton–Reykjavik service is now being increased from three to four flights a week throughout the year with the addition of a Friday service.

UK director Paul Simmons said: “EasyJet has carried almost 30,000 passengers between London and Reykjavik since its London Luton service to the city launched in March and we anticipate over 75,000 more passengers will take advantage of the easy and affordable flights from Manchester and Edinburgh next summer.

Iceland’s industries, innovation and tourism minister Steingrimur J. Sigfusson said: “EasyJet’s decision is a positive step and a sign of confidence in the Icelandic economy.
