Designer Travel sets virtual round-the-world fundraising challenge

The Designer Travel agency has launched a ‘Fab & Fit February’ challenge to get fit while raising funds for a colleague’s son.

Staff, family and friends have united to walk the equivalent of a round-the-world journey to raise £1,000 – by reaching a combined total of 50 million steps.

Amanda Matthews, co-founder, said there are two key reasons for this “mad challenge”.

“The first is we are all determined to lose our ‘lockdown lard’. We all want to look our very best for spring and, having locked away what’s left of the Christmas chocolates, we are ready to take on the world,” she said.

“We also want to raise the spirits of the son of one of our associates who is fighting a two-year battle with cancer.

“We thought if we could show him in pictures what we had all been up to it might raise a smile or two along the way.

“At the same time we would pledge to try and raise some money for his family for a few treats to get them through the next few months.”

The funds raised will support colleague Susan Dearing and her teenage son Aaron.

His cancer has “dumbfounded medics” and his on-going treatment means he has to spend many nights away from home.

The fundraising page can be found on the Just Giving website.

Designer Travel has a travel agency in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, and a team of 75 homeworking agents around the country.
