Cyprus removes pre-departure Covid test requirement

Cyprus has removed its requirement for pre-departure testing for fully vaccinated arrivals.

The rule came into effect from February 21, the UK Foreign Office (FCDO) confirmed today with an update to its travel advice.

However, all travellers aged 12 and above must still take a PCR test on arrival at the airport. This is at the cost of the passenger, which can be between €15 – €19.

Arrivals are asked to self-isolate in their accommodation until they receive their result, which should be within three hours. If a test returns positive, tourists must remain self-isolated and await instructions from the Cypriot Ministry of Health.

Cyprus also may ask visitors to take a further rapid Covid test 72 hours after arrival at a mobile unit. This is free of charge to those presenting a boarding pass at the testing site. Those who have receives a booster jab are exempt from these further tests.

All travellers are required to complete a Cyprus Flight Pass before travel.

The UK’s NHS App is an accepted form of proof of vaccination status. Vaccination must have taken place at least 14 days before travel.

Elsewhere, Bahrain removed the need for all travellers to take a PCR test on arrival.

The rule change came into force on Sunday, February 20.

Quarantine requirements for all passengers arriving in the kingdom have also been removed.

However, vaccination certification may be needed for entry to some venues.

The UK Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Bahrain and said the rules also apply to arrivals in Bahrain via the King Fahd Causeway bridge, which links the country to Saudi Arabia.

Bahrain is due to host the first Formula One race of the season from March 18-20.
