The UK has been placed on a list of ‘high-risk’ countries by Barbados.

The Caribbean nation, the most popular in the region among British travellers, will introduce updates to its protocols on arrivals from October 1.

Updates include mandatory second tests for travellers arriving from high and medium-risk countries to be taken 4-5 days after the first accepted negative test that was already required. They must quarantine until the result of this second test. If it is positive they must remain in self-isolation.

Seven-day monitoring will also be introduced for arrivals from high-risk countries, of which the UK is now one, in addition to quarantine. Monitoring includes interviews and assessments with public health professionals and, should circumstances arise during the period of monitoring, visitors may be asked to undergo an additional Covid-19 PCR test.

The Barbados Ministry of Tourism said that, as of September 24: “The United Kingdom will be categorized as a high-risk country in accordance with the country risk assessments conducted by the Barbados Ministry of Health & Wellness. As such, persons travelling from or transiting through the UK will be required to follow the protocols under the High-Risk Category.”
