Baglioni Hotels & Resorts unveils new opening in Puglia

Baglioni Hotels & Resorts will open a property in Puglia this May.

The hotel brand has taken over management of Masseria Muzza, a historic whitewashed building dating back to the 17th century sat on five acres of countryside in southern Italy.

The hotel will reopen as Baglioni Masseria Muzza following a complete renovation of its rooms and public areas.

Rooms are dotted around a central courtyard in former stables and barns, with high vaulted ceilings and original stone features. Some have balconies and verandas overlooking the Alimini lakes, while others enjoy sunset views over the private estate’s Mediterranean gardens and olive groves, as well as the Adriatic.

The countryside property has two restaurants, both offering Pugliese cuisine, with expansive outdoor dining.

There is also an infinity pool with lakeside views and a hotel spa featuring a steam bath, covered pool,  90°C Finnish sauna, ice fountain, relaxation zone, sensory showers and four treatment rooms, as well as a fitness room with natural daylight.

The private estate and surrounding countryside can be used for yoga, jogging and hikes, as well as mountain biking and horse riding.

The property is located between Baia dei Turchi beach and Alimini Piccolo lake, 10 minutes away from the fortified Unesco heritage city of Otranto.

The town features a Medieval castle and Romanesque cathedral, as well as numerous craft shops and waterside restaurants.

Guests can visit the nearby Acaya Golf Club or head to the Salento coast from Otranto to Santa Cesarea Terme for diving, snorkelling, canoeing, kayaking, kitesurfing and fishing.

Baglioni’s chief executive Guido Polito said: "Similar to Baglioni Resort Sardinia which we opened last year, we are once again offering our guests a five-star resort that is wholly immersed in nature. The Masseria Muzza is near Otranto and close to one of the most beautiful stretches of the Salento coast.

“Although the pandemic, alas, is not yet over, the opening of this new resort in 2022 represents a fresh wave of optimism for Baglioni Hotels & Resorts as we prepare to launch our sixth hotel in our native Italy.”

Baglioni Hotels & Resorts currently operates four hotels in Florence, Venice, Rome and London and three resorts in Tuscany, the Maldives and, as of last June, Sardinia.
