Aqua Expeditions to welcome new vessel Aqua Nera in October 2020

xpeditions has confirmed its newest vessel, Aqua Nera, will sail its inaugural voyage in October 2020.

The 20-suite luxury river ship will operate three-, four- and seven-night itineraries on the Peruvian Amazon, departing from the Peruvian port of Iquitos.

The launch comes just under a year after the line unveiled its first ocean-going ship, Aqua Blu, in November 2019.

Aqua Nera features a restaurant showcasing local Amazonian ingredients, a lounge, spa, river-facing plunge pool and gym.

Expert naturalist guides will be on board to offer bespoke experiences, such as intimate wildlife encounters in the world’s most biodiverse rainforest, which include spotting the legendary pink river dolphins.

The vessel has been designed by the same studio responsible for the line’s Aqua Mekong vessel, Noor Design.

The studio is said to have taken inspiration for Aqua Nera, which features a sleek black and brown exterior, from the blackwater lagoons and tributaries of the Amazon River and the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, as well as the colourful cultures of Portugal, Spain and Peru.

A statement from the line said: “Aqua Nera will revolutionise the current Amazon experience on offer by redefining luxury river cruising through design, culinary excellence and unforgettable memories.

“Featuring all the hallmarks of the seamless Aqua Expeditions experience, Aqua Nera will offer small boat exclusivity with big boat luxury amenities”

Voyages on Aqua Nera start from £3,170 per person for a three-night itinerary.
