Rooms and guest areas at andBeyond Mnemba Island have been completely redesigned
Africa specialist andBeyond has reopened its Zanzibar property following a comprehensive renovation.
The brand said andBeyond Mnemba Island, located off the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar, had been “fully reimagined”.
The overall layout of the lodge remains largely unchanged, with all bandas (thatched houses) situated along the beachfront and the shared guest area located in the middle of the property.
Bandas have been completely rebuilt and enlarged, with all interiors replaced. Each banda now features a redesigned private Beach Lounge; two entrances (one directly from the beach and one from the island’s interior forest); and floor-to-ceiling louvred blinds providing the option for bedrooms to be closed off or open to the sea breeze. One banda has also been converted into a two-bedroom family unit.
The design of the bandas reflects the form of a nautilus shell, while interiors maintain the lodge’s neutral colour palette, punctuated by coral accents.
The lodge’s main guest area has also been completely rebuilt and brought forward to maximise the sea views.
The bar features both indoor and outdoor areas while new design elements allow for open-air dining spaces to be enclosed during inclement weather.
New additions also include a Beach Shop; a Wellness Banda with an outdoor yoga platform and two treatment rooms that open out onto the island forest; and a Discovery Centre offering guests the opportunity to explore local conservation and community initiatives.
The lodge’s Dive Centre has also been renovated and expanded, with new watersports including clear-bottomed kayaks and Hobie sailing experiences. Guests can now enjoy a full-day private excursion on the lodge’s dhow as well as island conservation tours.
