BA to introduce new first class cabin

A380s to be retrofitted by summer 2026

British Airways is introducing a new first class seat as part of an overall £7 billion passenger experience revamp.

The new first class cabin forms part of the airline’s retrofit plans for Airbus A380 superjumbos, expected to be in service by summer 2026.

New features include a wider and longer seat, a 32-inch TV screen, buddy dining, optimal sense of space and privacy, with a personal luggage space.

The seat is 36.5 inches wide with a bed length of 79 inches, and features a multi-purpose ottoman and stowaway table.

BA said it was proud to be “the only European carrier from the UK to offer a first product across the Atlantic”.

The airline’s new first cabin “has been carefully designed to provide the feel of a modern luxury hotel, alongside home comforts and thoughtful British touches at 35,000ft”.

Chief customer officer Calum Laming said: “We’re incredibly proud to launch the next era of ‘First’ that pushes the boundaries of comfort, luxury and modernity, taking into consideration customer preferences and expectations to the finest detail.”
