Jumeirah Port Soller, Majorca

LOCATION: Jumeirah has chosen a dramatic setting for its first hotel in Europe: a clifftop above Port de Soller on Majorca’s rugged northwest coast.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The hotel’s unashamed glamour seems almost at odds with the relaxed beach village it overlooks, with its twinkling lighthouse and quaint tram chugging along the coastline. But it’s hard not to love it. Entering the super-stylish lobby, you feel immediately relaxed and well looked after by the warm and friendly staff.

THE FACTS: The hotel consists of 11 low rise, modern buildings stretching for half a mile, connected by gardens. It’s no surprise that the project took seven years to complete. Our bright and spacious luxury double room could have been torn from the pages of Elle Decoration, with its gorgeous leather desk chair, convex mirror and generous balcony with a sensational sea view. The open plan bathroom was the ultimate in luxury, if not privacy, with its double sinks, huge bathtub and rainshower. And there’s no need to set foot outside the resort. There are two swimming pools – one for families – and an impressive three-storey spa with outdoor hydrotherapy pool. The Sunset Lounge bar offers delectable cocktails with beautiful views over the Tramuntana mountains while El Fanals bistro serves delicious tapas and ceviche.

WOW: The star attraction here is the view. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, having breakfast on the terrace, or having a cocktail in the Sunset Lounge bar, it’s hard not to be mesmerised by the views over the bustling port, lush green mountains and out to sea. A good base for: The shops and restaurants of Port de Soller are a ten minute walk down a steep hill, so clients may want to make use of the hotel’s free shuttle on the way back. It’s also worth taking the charming vintage tram, which winds its way along the coast and inland to the nearby village of Soller.

HOW MUCH: Rooms from 340 euros a night
