Mauritius to reopen for international travel from July 15

Mauritius has confirmed it will open its borders to international travellers from July 15, 2021.

The island will be opening in phases and the first, from July 15 to September 30, 2021, will allow fully-vaccinated travellers to visit.

Holidaymakers will be restricted to facilities within their resorts, including swimming pools and private beaches but can venture outside if they stay longer than 14 days and test negative from a PCR test.

A list of approved ‘Covid-19 safe resorts’ will be available from June 2021 20.

As well as being fully-vaccinated, adult travellers to Mauritius aged 18 years or over must undergo a PCR test between five and seven days before departure and a negative result is required to travel to the island.

Travellers will also have a PCR test on arrival at the airport in Mauritius and on day seven and 14 of their resort holiday.

For phase two of the reopening, from October 1 2021, vaccinated travellers will be allowed entry without restrictions if they present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.

Unvaccinated travellers will be subject to 14 days in-room quarantine for both phases one and two until further notice.

Mauritius has accelerated its vaccine rollout in recent weeks, including the prioritisation of frontline workers in the tourism industry. The country is aiming for herd immunity by the end of September.
